Council Tax Inflation

Using Newham tax data, the estate agents Kinleigh, Folkard and Hayward have tracked the council tax. They have calculated that there was a massive 9.9% council tax increase between 2019-20 and 2020-21

They have tracked the council tax rates over the last decade. Following 10 years of zero rate increases, they have charted an explosion in the charges to council tax payers.

During the years 2008-2018 the residents of Newham saw balanced budgets, no cuts to services and no council tax increases.

Under the stewardship of Mayor Fiaz, they have seen increases of roughly 20% and cuts to services to the value of £45m.

In the old days, Labour was a Tax-and-Spend party. But Newham Labour has become a Tax-and-Cut party! The unlucky residents of Newham  now pay more to get less.

Not the best advert for socialism, comrades.

The increase is composed of 2.9% for the council; 2% for adult social care and  3.6% for City Hall precept.

The brutal increases, which will hit people working on low incomes the most, did manage to energise some of the Newham Councillors. Councillors Clark, Patel and Easter all criticised the tax hikes.

STOP PRESS. We have just received news from the Mayor’s Office.  The reason for tax increases and services cuts are because “it is someone else’s fault”. They haven’t decided whether it is the previous mayor or City Hall or the Tory government. But they assure us, it is not the fault of Mayor Fiaz.
