A list of Newham Councillor Landlords. This list of Multiple Property Owners is taken from the Register of Interests on the LB Newham website.
They say that they represent the poor and homeless, but some of our councillors are multi-millionaires having gotten rich on the local property market. These are just the properties they own in Newham, revealed by statutory disclosure. Many have property portfolios that extend well beyond Newham. Open Newham is aware that several have significant property holdings outside Newham and that their assets revealed on the Newham website are only the tip of the iceberg.
Some of the properties may well be mortgaged, so the estimated values may not reflect the net values. What it does show is the outlook of these councillors who claim to represent the poor and disenfranchised.
Why is this important? Simply because The Labour Party claims to represent working people and those who are beaten down by the system. In Newham it is being run by multi-millionaire property owners. Does that make sense? Or is it a case for the Newham Labour Party it is ‘do as I say, not do as I do’?
Property values have increased dramatically in Newham. We have not included those council members with only one property in which they live, regardless of the value.
Interestingly, many of these millionaire landlords listed were fans of former Leader Jeremy Corbyn.
