A New Face on the Block

It’s funny how the prospect of two, as yet unallocated parliamentary seats, inspires people to come in to support Newham Labour in their campaigning.

Sam Tarry MP was recently deselected in the constituency of Ilford South. It would appear that he is looking around to see if there are any safe seats going spare.

Of course, it may be that he now simply has too much time on his hands and has offered support to the struggling Labour Party in Newham. His post on X suggests that the Labour faithful in Newham are not flocking to the canvassing sessions.

We are told that when Mayor Sadiq Khan arrived in Newham for a mass canvassing event he was shocked to find barely more than a handful of local activists there to join him, supplemented by a small number from across the Lea in Tower Hamlets. We are told that less than half of the sitting councillors could be assembled to attend at least one session prior to the GLA/Mayoral elections.

While Labour is riding high across the country, it does seem that they are struggling here in Newham.
