Allegations Against Former Councillor Mughal

It seems that Newham Council and the Mayor are coming under some criticism for failing to deal with allegations against their former colleague. Mushtaq Mughal (suspended because of allegations of antisemitism) was, we are told, the fortunate recipient of a council flat.

Residents neighbouring Mughal have complained about him to the council alleging “bullying, lies, smears and intimidation towards the residents (and)  abusing his position as a councillor”. They assert that their complaints went unheard.

They further accuse the former councillor of telling porkies in order to get a council flat.

We have seen a copy of the letter which they tell us was sent to the mayor’s office. They tell us it was unanswered.

We cannot speak to the veracity nor the accuracy of the allegations, but they do seem to be sufficient to warrant some inquiry. Maybe from the standards board or internal audit?
