Build a “Fairer Newham”; by Taxing the Poor.

In order to build a “fairer Newham”, Newham Council (Labour) has increased its council tax rates by 4.99%. The Mayor of London (Labour) and the GLA have upped their demands by over 9%. Newham remains one of the most deprived boroughs both in London and the country.

Most people’s wages have not gone up by 15% in the past 12 months. Thus, the decisions of the mayors of London and Newham have not gone down well in all quarters.

By our rough calculations, the level of local taxation has increased by over 30% in five years. Mayor Fiaz is content to use the most regressive form of taxation to raise money because she can’t keep control of her budget.

Mind you, with a mayoral salary increase of around £2,500, she should be able to meet any additional costs.
