Cuts or Mismanagement? A Tragic Death of a Vulnerable Man

The coroner reported, “Omar Abdi Ahmed died on 20th November 2023 in hospital due to hypothermia. Mr Ahmed, an amputee who received domiciliary care three times a day, was found by carers, unresponsive at home on l5th November 2023. Mr Ahmed had developed pneumonia which, along with ischaemic heart disease had contributed to his hypothermia. Mr Ahmed had chosen not to activate his home’s heating system”.

The inquest, which concluded in July has just released the findings.

A vulnerable man, was found semi-conscious, with a leg bandage which had not been changed for weeks, in a soiled incontinence diaper, on the floor in a foetal position suffering from hypothermia. This was despite carers attending to him three times a day.

We await Newham’s response.
