Excruciating Statement from Labour Group in Connection with Committee Allocations

In what came across as a most embarrassing piece of self-congratulatory and self-serving prose, the Labour Group sought to justify its refusal to grant the opposition any seats on committees which might give them access to information which is embarrassing to the mayor. 

Our gnomes tell us that the “generous” and “gracious” author of this drivel is none other than Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz, which if correct means that this is narcissistic nonsense intended for the sole purpose of writing herself into a distorted history.

The author claims low turnout across the UK (it was a local election!). But as we have seen, the Newham turnout was down by 20,000 voters on 2018; it was 7-8 points down on other London mayoral seats also polled in May 2022; and 13 points down on Tower Hamlets.

There is no disguising that the 2022 election showed that Labour must change or face real competition at the next election. No amount of narcissistic nonsense will change that.
