More from Barking and Dagenham
We reported earlier, that Cllr Darren Rodwell, Leader of the Council in Barking and Dagenham had had his parliamentary ambitions quashed when an allegation of sexual assault was lodged with the Labour Party.
We are told that the timeline went something like this.
Monday morning a complaint was received; the name of the complainant does not seem to have been released.
Early Tuesday morning the press was briefed that Rodwell was having his candidacy suspended.
Tuesday evening Rodwell had an interview with the Labour Party about his candidacy for the seat vacated by Margaret Hodges. By this time the suspension was all over the press.
It is not exactly clear when the Labour Party told Rodwell that he was not getting the seat.
Despite finding that he was barred from standing as an MP, Rodwell, we understand, was told that he should remain as the Labour Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council. Apparently, the allegations were so serious that he could not stand as an MP, but not so serious as to prevent him leading the Labour Council.
Make sense of that if you can.
By the time Nesil Kaliskan had been imposed, the complaint seemed to have evaporated.
