New, Low Traffic Neighbourhood Plans face Opposition

It seems that Newham is intent on spreading LTNs across the borough. Touted as a means of improving road safety and cleaner air, they have also incurred the wrath of residents because they cause disruption to journeys and confusion for delivery drivers. Councils often face opposition because there is little ‘joined-up’ thinking and the GLA funded schemes are simply placed to fit a wider agenda, without reference to the local consequences.

The latest attempt to impose such a scheme seems to have been done without the support of residents and they have launched a petition against it.

In other boroughs, resident opposition has led to the removal of some schemes.
