Street Homelessness Climbing Again in Newham

Amidst much fanfare and collective back-slapping the burgesses of Newham congratulated themselves on the sterling work that they had done amongst the street homeless population during the pandemic. They spent more than any other east London borough, both in terms of total cash spent and when measured by unit cost.

You’d have thought that with such high levels of expenditure and political commitment that the problem would have been solved, or at least significantly reduced.

Apparently not.

Across the borough we are seeing people sleeping on the streets. The support to help them move on seems to have disappeared.

Although this is a problem primarily for those who are street-homeless, residents also come face to face with some of the consequences.

Perhaps the cabinet members for Housing and Adult Services would care to address this issue.
