Yet More Council Meetings Cancelled

You may recall that prior to her election, Ms Fiaz was very keen on openness and transparency and lots of council meetings.

We have previously reported on the mayor’s propensity to cancel meetings and commented that this does not seem to line up with her promises prior to election, but then she used to be in favour of abolishing the mayoralty and reducing the number of special responsibility allowances, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised when things change.

Readers will recall that the December council meeting was cancelled, there was no meeting in January; there was a meeting in February but the meeting in March has been cancelled. November 23rd to April 10th and only one meeting in five months.

It is almost as if the mayor does not want any scrutiny from either the public or councillors. The meeting that was held was a single-issue meeting to discuss, (and we use the term in its broadest sense), the budget.

We note that the Save the City Farm campaign were denied the opportunity to address the council. It maybe that Ms Fiaz is reticent about being confronted by angry residents. But there was also the novel experience at the February Budget Meeting, of the newly independent councillor, Cllr Peppiatt offering some criticism and challenge. It might be that Ms Fiaz is concerned that he would ask her a question!
