Humiliation as Decision to ignore the People’s Petition is taken to court Friday 16th October

STOP PRESS: The judge ruled that the application can be heard. Mayor Fiaz is forced to engage a raft of expensive lawyers to defend a stupid decision which should never have been made in the first place. How much will this pointless defence cost the Newham taxpayers?

The motion which was whipped through council requires a referendum between a Leader and Committee model of governance. This is widely regarded as the least efficient of the options available. It is favoured by Fiaz because it is favoured by Momentum, and she won’t be here so what does she care?

It is an ideal model for those who want to talk much and do little. Much loved it seems, by Fiaz’s cheerleaders at ‘Voting for Change’.

If the case now before the courts is successful, it means that the council decision of 21st October 2020 will be void. Because it is void, it will have no weight in law, it will be as if the motion had never been passed. 

Consequently, we understand, the referendum will not then be asked to decide upon the ‘Leader and Committee’ option, but rather the ‘Leader and Cabinet’ option vs ‘Mayor and Cabinet’.
