Chris Robbins CBE

We note the sad news that one of the major figures in East London’s Labour history has recently passed away. Cllr Chris Robbins led the council in Waltham Forest from 2009 to 2016. When he took on the mantle of leadership, the council had been run by coalitions and minority administrations. Since he took on the leadership the Labour Party has never lost control of the council. This speaks to his ability and the popularity of his approach.

Chris was one a group of East London Labour leaders who brought a pragmatic and principled approach to politics and worked tirelessly for the people of their boroughs, always putting “residents first”. His passing will be mourned by many.
