Safer Spaces for Newham Labour Women

It seems that we have upset some of the wimin in Newham Labour. Open Letter to Open Newham.

Apparently, criticism of a woman is not allowed. Because she is a woman! Because she’s a woman, criticism is misogynistic.

Criticism of a Muslim is not allowed because it is Islamophobic. Because she’s a Muslim. Criticism of Muslim men doesn’t seem to have provoked the same degree of outrage.

To be clear, the Open Letter has nothing to do with safe spaces and everything to do with shutting down criticism. Demanding ‘safe spaces’ is just another way of saying ‘shut up’ to people you disagree with. That so many of Newham’s Councillors have added their names to this drivel speaks to the unfortunate state of the Labour Party at the moment. 

A couple of entries on an obscure website have caused the comradettes and their ‘allies’ to explode in anger. So what? Tough.

Amongst the ‘allies’ was one Lee Jasper and his blog entry was rehashed on a Newham Labour Facebook page. That is the same Lee Jasper who was thrown out of the Labour Party, who stood for Respect and was suspended from Twitter for reasons we can only imagine. By their friends you shall know them.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU however to the authors. The number of visits to the website have increased dramatically since the publication of the open letter and for that we are very grateful. 

And we can confirm that we will continue to criticise irrespective of sex or gender. Or for that matter race, ethnicity or religion…have we missed anyone?
