Who’s Been a Naughty Boy?

In their last meeting, (July 14 2022) the Standards Committee considered a complaint under the Code of Conduct against Cllr Shaban Mohammed.

For understandable reasons the item was taken as an ‘exempt’ item, that is to say it was discussed in camera. Because of this we do not know what the substance of the complaint is. Although we have our suspicions.

Observers will note that Cllr Mohammed and his brothers, though they live in East Ham, have business and property interests in Canning Town. As such, they and their mates can pack any branch meeting, (when it is that Newham branches meet).

We are told that former Canning Town North councillor Delphine Tohoura and Cllr Mohammed fell out, possibly because Cllr Tohoura wouldn’t do what the very important Cllr Mohammed told her to do.

But its all right. There’s no misogyny in Newham Labour.

We are aware that Tohoura had been the subject of a harassment campaign, which involved a whispering campaign amongst the membership and bullying by email from CTN members. And that she had accused Mohammed of bullying her.

Our suspicion is that the complaint, (all 20 pages of it!) relates to this.

Needless to say, Cllr Tohoura was deselected when the Labour Party came to choose candidates for 2022, in what was another example of the “transparent and open” process that currently passes for democracy in Newham Labour.

What we don’t know is the outcome of the complaint. Nor do we know when any findings will be made public. But we are sure that they will be, because Newham Labour is committed to “openness and transparency”, isn’t it?
