The Wonders of Modern Technology

Some years ago, at considerable expense, Newham Council invested in some litter bins that would automatically tell the council when they were full, (in the picture on the left, you can see the flashing red light).

It seemed a great idea. Clearing the bins would be done as and when needed and not to a prearranged schedule which meant that some bins were emptied when half empty and some when they were overflowing. 

As we see in the photographs above, that doesn’t quite seem to be working at the moment.
