A Late Entry Revealed in the Mayoral Stakes
Taqi Shah has announced his entry into the race to become mayor. He comes from the same stable as Tahir Mirza, essentially a religiously conservative Muslim with a communitarian agenda. Our understanding is that Tahir Mirza will withdraw in favour of Shah.
Shah was an early supporter of the incumbent.
Alas, they all fell out shortly after the election. Having expended considerable effort in getting Ms Fiaz selected as the Labour candidate, we understand that he felt betrayed when Fiaz turned on him and the East Ham base that he represents. They are, it seems, the focus of the Labour Party’s investigations into a dodgy membership.
Shah and Fiaz in Happier Days.
Shah, a solicitor, was a key mover in the referendum campaign and is a director of the company which brought the court case around the mayoral petition.
He remains the secretary of East Ham CLP and his Facebook page records his party and campaigning sympathies.
