Just When You Thought That It Couldn’t Get Any Worse

Council Deputy Chair Suspended for anti-Semitism.

Anti-Semitism has dogged Newham Labour Party and the council since 2018.

First there was the harassment and persecution of the only Jewish councillor.

Then there was the removal of the Deputy Mayor for facilitating anti-Semitism on a Newham Labour Facebook site.

Now Deputy Chair of Council, one Cllr Nazir Ahmed has been caught out. Ahmed, we understand, is a barrister and Freeman of the City of London. 

His solution to the Israel/Palestine problem is to get rid of the Jews. He is clearly more liberal than some of his Hamas supporting comrades, he doesn’t want to kill them all. He just wants to get them out of Israel and he helpfully suggested where they might be relocated, yes, the USA.

This was the same map which got MP Naz Shah suspended. Shah later gave what appeared to be a fulsome and genuine apology.

We don’t know what Ahmed will do. Perhaps he will take a look at Shah’s words and use them as a formula to get himself off the hook.

In a world that is in the constant thrall of conspiracy theories, Ahmed treats us to one of his favourites. The Jews are trying to collapse the Al-Aqsa Mosque by tunnelling under it.

What is clear is that the problem Labour has with anti-Semitism has not gone away. It’s gone quiet, but it is still there bubbling below the surface.

Once upon a time the Labour Party stood for certain values. Now it is battered by every intersectional breeze and ‘oppressed’ identity group, as long as they bring in votes with them. Does anyone know what the Labour Party stands for now?
