Browning Road Continues to be a Nice Little Earner for Newham Council
This is a report from the Newham Recorder.
We have covered the way in which breaches in traffic regulations are being used as a form of unregulated local taxation. And it seems from the report, that the signage is deliberately constructed to encourage breaches of the regulations.
The photograph above illustrates the problem. Cllr Asser is quoted,
A reduction in pollution and ending a rat-run are both outcomes to be welcomed, but Cllr Asser does what politicians the world over are wont to do, which is answer a different question. By the simple expedient of providing better signage, he would reduce the number of cars which breach the regulations. Of course, that would also reduce the income the council got from fines. By about £1m per year.
