GMB Campaign Against Management Bullying in Newham: Scale of Problem Suggests “A Wider Problem with Processes, Management and Leadership”.

You don’t have to like his politics to know that Mehmood Mirza has been the most consistent and energetic campaigner against fly-tipping and rubbish in the borough for the last four years.

Veteran councillor from Royal Docks, Patrick Murphy has resigned the whip in protest at the decision of the Labour Party to reimpose Rokhsana Fiaz as Labour’s candidate for mayor in the May 2022 local elections.

The NEC has spoken. Rokhsana Fiaz was re-selected as the candidate who will contest the mayoralty in the local elections in May.

We reported a little while ago about the cost of the astonishing number of staff who have left Newham Council having had to sign non-disclosure orders, some 63 over the course of three years.

It seems that the interviews for the Labour Candidate for Mayor were held on Tuesday 1st February. As we predicted, the only candidates were Rokhsana Fiaz and Unmesh Desai. No results have yet been announced.

It seems that Ms Fiaz needed to be called back for a second interview on Thursday 3rd February. The procedure has been somewhat opaque so we don’t know the reason that the panel needed to see her again.

In what appears to be a co-ordinated event, the Chair of East Ham CLP, Tahir Mirza and the Chair of West Ham CLP, Carel Buxton have both resigned the membership of the Labour Party.

From a panel of about eight candidates who submitted their names with regard to an interest in the Labour candidacy for mayor, the NEC have decided to interview two.

We have raised the issue of bullying in the workplace before and the decision of GMB members to hold a strike ballot seems to bear out our concerns. We have pasted the text from the GMB statement on the matter below.

Berry, a GLA member representing the Green Party contacted Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor to Sadiq Khan. For some reason she feels that spending £750 per person to promote the outcome the mayor wanted, might have been just a little, you know, dodgy.

Campaigners have not given up on the City Farm. They have recently delivered copies of the open letter to all councillors demanding a reprieve of the farm.

The Newham People’s Alliance (NPA) was prominent in the campaign to have Rokhsana Fiaz selected as the Labour Party candidate for mayor. The posting above was taken from the Facebook page of Newham People’s Alliance. It appeared in September 2018 and was an unsolicited vote of thanks from the outgoing management of the site to two individuals who had helped them earlier in the year. Or at least it seemed to be.

It seems that the Labour Party has a number of new problems. Having got rid of several of the entryist factions committed to the ‘downfall of capitalism’, a new one has arisen in Newham.

We recently received a communication from Mr Mirza, indicating that he had not been ‘expelled’ from the Labour Party and that he had merely been suspended. He went to some pains to point out that had never revealed the reason behind his suspension and that as he had not revealed it, no-one knew the real reason.

Scanning through the FOI responses at www.whatdotheyknow.com we came across this one. Readers will recall that we have suggested that HMS Newham Council is not a happy ship.

Of course. There are no prizes for guessing which council this is.

It does seem that some of the candidates for the position as Labour’s candidate for mayor have decided that it would be a good idea to engage with the membership in the selection of that candidate.

Six of the declared candidates were invited to sign the letter below, for reasons unknown, but which can be surmised, one of them chose not to.

You know, we said it, but didn’t expect the mayor to confirm it in such a clear and blatant manner.
