Correction:
We are happy to amend the article on selection fraud . Mr Mirza, who may yet turn out to be the outsider who upsets Labour’s apple cart, has been in touch to request that we note the following, which corrects a misstatement in the article. We are happy to do so.
Labour Tackles Sleaze, But Not Apparently in Newham
… just 4 months after the Tory sleaze scandal that saw Owen Paterson resign, Boris Johnson is back to taking the British people for fools.
What Do John Berkow and Rokhsana Fiaz Have in Common?
Well, actually, not very much.
Of course, both have been accused of bullying.
This is What Happens. Unless You Come from Newham
The statement above comes from the Labour Party’s complaints procedure on antisemitism. It is available on the Labour Party website.
Is Labour Preparing to Lose Some Seats?
The mayor’s new community organ carried an interesting headline this month.
A New Contribution to the Literary World
We have learned that former Mayor of Newham, one Robin Wales (and the picture is a Welsh dragon, not a devil; subtle, eh?), anyway, the former mayor has taken metaphorical pen to paper and is nearing completion of a tome that looks at his time in office in Newham.
Labour Begins to Select Council Candidates
We are getting interesting, and disturbing reports from Labour councillors who have recently been interviewed to determine if they are suitable candidates to stand for election in 2022.
Newham Labour; Running Out of Women? Institutionally Sexist?
Would you believe it? Two hundred and thirty applicants to become councillors and Newham Labour seem to have run out of women.
Selection Fraud?
The publication of Roxi and the Tablighis has raised some interesting additional material.
The individual, ‘Mufti’ Umair Zulfiqar was identified as one of the principal activists within one faction of Tablighi Jamaat and within Newham People’s Alliance.
Two Newham Councillors Resign the Whip in Protest at Reselection of Rokhsana Fiaz; “An Unfit Person to Hold Office”
Veteran councillor from Royal Docks, Patrick Murphy has resigned the whip in protest at the decision of the Labour Party to reimpose Rokhsana Fiaz as Labour’s candidate for mayor in the May 2022 local elections.
Is Labour Blind to the Threats Locally?
This post on local social media has begun to garner dozens of supportive comments
The End of the Old Alliance
In what appears to be a co-ordinated event, the Chair of East Ham CLP, Tahir Mirza and the Chair of West Ham CLP, Carel Buxton have both resigned the membership of the Labour Party.
Truth or Lies
The Newham People’s Alliance (NPA) was prominent in the campaign to have Rokhsana Fiaz selected as the Labour Party candidate for mayor. The posting above was taken from the Facebook page of Newham People’s Alliance. It appeared in September 2018 and was an unsolicited vote of thanks from the outgoing management of the site to two individuals who had helped them earlier in the year. Or at least it seemed to be.
A Shadow Party-Within-A-Party?
It seems that the Labour Party has a number of new problems. Having got rid of several of the entryist factions committed to the ‘downfall of capitalism’, a new one has arisen in Newham.
Sights on Higher Office?
We recently received a communication from Mr Mirza, indicating that he had not been ‘expelled’ from the Labour Party and that he had merely been suspended. He went to some pains to point out that had never revealed the reason behind his suspension and that as he had not revealed it, no-one knew the real reason.
The Trouble with Social Media is…
That when you upset people, they can get together and, well you see what below.
Labour’s Selection Dilemma
Newham in a financial crisis; redundancies; increased dissatisfaction with the council; increased taxes; new charges for residents; a Labour Group riven with antisemitism and Islamophobia; the local Labour Parties suspended.
You’d think that these issues might occupy some of the time of our local political leaders.
It seems not.
Mosque Visiting, in a “Private Capacity”
It appears that the mayor is on a recruitment drive.
Earlier in the summer she took herself along to the Masjid Imambargah, a mosque in Plaistow, near to the Abbey Arms. With the closure of the Imamia Mission on Romford Road this is the only Shia mosque currently operating in the borough.
She was at pains to point out that she was there in a personal capacity, not as the First Citizen of the Borough. Yeah.
West Ham Wants In, (But they don’t want East Ham)
Various members of the General Committee seem to have been invited to join in a request to Amy Fode, to reinstate West Ham CLP.
